DaVinci IQ3: new conduction vaporizer with a 21700 battery
In September 2024, the US brand DaVinci unveiled the IQ3, a new model in its range of portable dry herb vaporizers. The manufacturer gives no exact launch date: the first trade press tests date from mid-September, and on 27 September 2024 the specialist site Vapebeat published a detailed comparison with its predecessor, the IQ2.
In brief
- Conduction heating, maximum temperature of 430 °F (about 221 °C), adjustable in one-degree steps.
- 0.7 g chamber, compared with 0.5 g on the IQ2.
- Replaceable 4000 mAh 21700 battery, up to 90 minutes of use per charge according to the manufacturer, USB-C charging.
- Zirconia vapour path, brushed aluminium housing; US list price: USD 299.
Heating and temperature control
The IQ3 heats the material by conduction, meaning through contact with the chamber walls. According to the manufacturer's page, the maximum temperature is 430 °F, about 221 °C, and the stated heat-up time is around 30 seconds. In addition to manual adjustment in one-degree steps, the device offers four preset programmes called Smart Path: each gradually raises the temperature over an eight-minute session and together they cover the range from 350 to 430 °F (about 177–221 °C).
Airflow is adjusted with a ring called the Air Dial, which according to the manufacturer increases air velocity by 70%. In Vapebeat's comparison, the IQ2 offered only basic airflow adjustment.
Chamber, cooling and battery
The chamber holds up to 0.7 g of material; the manufacturer also lists a 0.2 g capsule. The vapour path is made of zirconia and glass, and the mouthpiece of zirconia. The new features include the Cool Core system, consisting of a removable zirconia element and a flavour chamber made of polished black zirconia ceramic: according to DaVinci, it lowers the vapour temperature compared with the brand's earlier models.
The battery is a replaceable 4000 mAh 21700 lithium-ion cell, replacing the IQ2's 18650. The manufacturer states up to 90 minutes of use per charge and about three hours for a full charge via USB-C, which replaces the previous model's micro USB; the device can also be used while charging. The housing is brushed aluminium, the dimensions are 28 × 51.5 × 101 mm and the stated weight is 8.4 ounces, about 238 grams. The warranty is ten years.
The context for Switzerland
The IQ3 belongs to the category of portable conduction vaporizers with digital temperature control, while other manufacturers focus on convection or on hybrid systems that combine both methods. The USD 299 price refers to the manufacturer's US website; in Switzerland, including Ticino, prices in francs are set by individual retailers. According to the product page, the IQ3 is designed in the United States and manufactured in China.
